Sure one could go into a long drawn out answer explaining why meditation is beneficial, but sometimes we just need a short, sweet to the point reason. Meditation will free you from suffering. Focusing on your breath, which forces you to get present in the moment helps to release disruptive emotional states that throw us off center.
Meditation also rewires our neural pathways in the brain, causing permanent changes in the way it functions. Therefore, over time, we can basically eliminate reactive patterns and instead replace them with calm awareness.
