HJ: The concept of ‘thought viruses’ has been brought to my attention twice now in the last few days and is a very pertinent topic for those seeking higher states of awareness and spirituality. A ‘though virus’ is essentially a limting belief about oneself or the nature of reality that keeps them locked into or rather imprisoned by a disempowering reality. Thought viruses are usually shared by many people, hence the term virus. They can easily be passed along from person to person if one is not critical of all information entering the mind — blindly accepting the logic, reasoning, or beliefs that govern another’s life/reality facilitate the transmission of these thought viruses.
Furthermore, because they tend to operate on a collective, societal scale, they can be harder to identify because one must then challenge commonly accepted beliefs, which are strongly reinforced by social pressure. Often we ‘catch’ these thought viruses when young, as we are more impressionable and often do not question what is told to us by our parents or other authority figures. Hence these thought forms may leave our conscious awareness and operate in the background of our minds, fueling and severely limiting our reality until we become aware of them and choose to eliminate them.
Fortunately, this is not terribly difficult to do. It simply requires conviction, discipline, and a new belief that is positive, expansive and life-affirming to replace the old limiting one.
